How do I get from Bali airport to my hotel?

Short answerThe catch nobody warns you about: Grab and Gojek are banned from picking up inside Ngurah Rai airport, so you have three real options - the official Koptax fixed-fare taxi counter in arrivals, a pre-booked private transfer that meets you at the gate, or walking a few minutes past the terminal to meet a Grab or Gojek you ordered yourself. For a first arrival, jet-lagged and possibly at night, a pre-booked transfer is the least stressful.

What each option costs

The Koptax counter runs fixed zone fares: roughly 250,000-350,000 IDR to Seminyak, 350,000-500,000 to Canggu, and 450,000-650,000 to Ubud (Wego, Bali Nusa Transport). A pre-booked private transfer costs about the same or a little more but adds door-to-door service and a name-board meet at arrivals. Ordering a Grab or Gojek and walking to a meetup point outside is the cheapest (Ubud around 200,000-300,000 IDR), with the trade-off of hauling bags to a pickup pin after a long flight.

Why Grab is banned at the airport

It is a turf agreement protecting the licensed airport taxis, and it is enforced - the same cooperative dynamic you will meet around Ubud and some beaches (see Grab or Gojek in Bali). Since July 2026 the Koptax fleet also includes Blue Bird-standard electric taxis through the Koptax-Blue Bird "Kawan Bluebird" partnership, so the official option is more consistent than it used to be. Whatever you take, confirm the fare at the counter, in the app or with the driver before you set off.

The honest pick, and how long it takes

First-timer, night arrival or travelling as a family: pre-book a transfer and skip every decision at 1am. Confident, light luggage and arriving by day: walk out and order a Grab. Drive times depend entirely on traffic - roughly 30-40 minutes to Seminyak, 45-75 to Canggu, and 60-90 to Ubud.
