What power adapter do I need for Bali?

Short answerBali uses Type C and Type F plugs - the two round pins you see across most of Europe - running on 230V at 50Hz. If you are coming from Europe you need nothing. From the UK, US, Australia or most of Asia you need a simple plug adapter. Americans have one extra thing to check: a 110V-only device also needs a voltage converter, though nearly all modern phones, laptops and cameras are dual-voltage and only need the plug adapter.

The one label that decides it

Look at the small print on your charger where it says "INPUT". If it reads 100-240V - which covers almost every phone and laptop charger - a plug adapter is all you need. If it says 110V only (some US hairdryers, shavers, curling irons), it needs a voltage converter or 230V will destroy it (Simify, Klook, bali.com).

Who needs what

Europe: nothing. UK and Ireland: an adapter (they use Type G). US and Canada: an adapter plus the voltage check above. Australia and New Zealand: a plug adapter only, since they already run 230-240V. A single cheap universal travel adapter covers all of these, so you do not need a drawer of them.

Practical notes

Villas and older hotels can be short on sockets - one adapter plus a small power strip beats packing five adapters. Buy the adapter at home; airport and Bali prices are marked up, though Indomaret and Circle K minimarts do stock them if you forget. Brief power cuts happen occasionally in wet season (see when is rainy season in Bali), so a charged power bank is worth having for your phone and its maps.
