Best of Cape Town: Top-5 Spas, Surf, Saunas, Padel and More (2026)

Cape Town has twelve lists: spas, massage, yoga, gyms, recovery, Pilates, coworking, surf, diving, healthy cafes, cooking classes and padel. Beach clubs did not reach five places that meet our rule of a Google rating of 4.4 or higher with at least 40 reviews, so we left them out. Gardens, the City Centre and Woodstock hold many of the spas, massage studios, gyms and coworking spaces; Sea Point and Green Point have most of the Pilates studios and a sauna; Claremont and Bishopscourt cover the southern suburbs; surf splits between Muizenberg on False Bay and Big Bay at Blouberg; and the padel clubs sit north of the centre in Paarden Eiland, Montague Gardens and Century City. Each list is built from Google ratings and the venues' own websites, not from paid placements, and we have not visited them in person.

Frequently asked

Where should I stay in Cape Town for spas, gyms and surf?

It depends on what you will do most. By these lists, Gardens and the City Centre are the most central for spas, massage, gyms and coworking; Sea Point suits Pilates and strength training; Muizenberg is the False Bay surf base, and Bloubergstrand covers Big Bay surf, a yoga studio and a beachfront coworking space.

Where can I surf in Cape Town as a beginner?

The surf schools on this list teach at Muizenberg on False Bay and Big Bay at Blouberg on the Atlantic side. Cape Town Surf School covers both beaches, Soft Surf School and Bodyboard South Africa are in Muizenberg, and Surf Life Surf School runs group lessons at Big Bay.

How do I get between Cape Town's areas?

The places in these lists run from Bloubergstrand and Durbanville in the north to Glencairn in the south and Hout Bay in the west, so most visitors drive or use ride-hailing apps. Some operators come to you: three massage services are mobile, Go Sauna and Hot Huts set up saunas on the coast, and Into the Blue collects divers within Cape Town.

Are these Cape Town lists sponsored?

No. Every list is editorial and unpaid: places rated 4.4 or higher with at least 40 Google reviews are ranked by a review-weighted score, one branch per brand, and no business can pay for a position.
